James Calvin Ladwig, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away January 12, 2017. The son of Elmer and Edna Ladwig, he was born May 2nd, 1939 in Okeene, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy on May 10th, 1963 in Pensacola Florida where he met and married Mary Joyce Ladwig. Designated a Naval Aviator on September 4th, 1964 he served his country over 20 years with P-2V Neptune Maritime Patrol Squadron VP-17, Advanced Training Squadron VT-27, P-3 Squadron VP-44, and tours as Catapult and Arresting Officer and Assistant Combat Information Center Officer aboard the USS Independence and USS America aircraft carriers. After retiring from the Navy he earned his Master of Science Degree in Education from Indiana University and taught Chemistry and Physics at Franklin Central High School for 23 years retiring in 2008. He was an active member and Elder at the Franklin Road Church of Christ. His wife of 53 years, Joyce, three sons Parker, Brad, and Sam Ladwig, his sister Patty Lamle, and his grandchildren Gus, Nathan, Emma, Carl, and Martin Ladwig survive him. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Road Church of Christ, 950 N. Franklin Road, concluding with a flag ceremony.
