Winnie Clark

Mary Winifred Griffith Clark was born to Harlan and Mary Myers Griffith on September 4, 1925, at Mutual, OK. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 1, 2019, at the Cimarron Nursing Center in Kingfisher, OK, at the age of 93.

Winnie grew up with 5 siblings in the Mutual community, graduating from Mutual High School in 1943. She was active in many school activities and loved playing basketball. Her heart was snagged by a handsome young man, Max Clark, who attended school at Richmond, and they were married on December 22, 1943, at Watonga, OK.  Max and Winnie had three sons, Max Charles, Alan Dale (deceased shortly after birth), and Mark Douglas. Throughout their 55 years of marriage they lived in Memphis, TN, and Mutual, Lexington, Purcell, Pauls Valley, Okeene, and Enid, OK. Winnie’s first love was always her home and family.  She was involved in all of the boys’ school and sports activities.  During their time at Purcell, she was co-owner of the Tot and Teen clothing store, and she also worked for several years as a CNA at Buchanan Nursing Home in Okeene. She was also Max’s right hand girl with the farm work. She and Max loved spending time at their trailer at Canton Lake and also enjoyed many long trips in their RV trailer.

Winnie received Christ and was baptized at age 11 at a revival in the Mutual Methodist Church.  This began a long journey of faith, and throughout her life she exemplified the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. She had a true servant’s heart and was always willing to help others.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Max, infant son, Alan Dale, sister Mildred Espy, and brothers Eugene Griffith and Melvin Griffith.  She is survived by her two sons, Max Charles and Sandy Clark of Watonga, OK,  Mark and Faith Clark of Granbury Texas; grandchildren Brian and Trisha Clark of Franklin, TN, Aaron and Alison Clark of Watonga, OK, Kyle and Alisha Clark of Midland, TX, and Blair and Waylon Pierce of Granbury, TX;  and 9 great grandchildren: Graham, Landry, Miles, Maggie, Macie, Nathan, Ayden, Wrenn, and Wridge, and sister, Roberta Christensen of Kiowa, KS, and brother, Boyd Griffith of Mutual, OK. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 8, at the Mutual Christian Church with Rev. Asia Frye of the Mennonite Church of the Servant in Wichita, KS officiating.  Interment will follow at the Dunlap Cemetery near Mutual under the direction of Redinger Funeral Home in Seiling. Memorials may be made to the Mutual Christian Church, the Mutual Methodist Church or the Leukemia Research Foundation in c/o Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663).
