Praying for those affected by fire
Fires have been raging through Western Oklahoma this week. The governor declared a state of Emergency for 22 counties, including Blaine, Dewey, Kingfisher and Woodward. My prayers go out to all who are affected and to our firefighters, law enforcement and emergency managers who are assisting in fighting these terrible blazes and helping our residents and business owners.
This has been a busy week in the House, with many bills being heard in advance of the March 23 deadline when all bills originating in the House must be passed to the Senate if they are to proceed this session. Several of the bills I authored passed this week. These include:
House Bill 1833 transfers all duties and responsibilities of the state Council of Firefighter Training to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, creating the Firefighter Training Advisory Committee. The committee will advise the fire marshal’s commission and be funded by insurance premiums. Most importantly, the measure makes the State Fire Marshal’s Office a non appropriated state agency as it has been in the past, moving it from a pass-through agency to one that has oversight and accountability.
