On Nov. 11, 1918, Allied nations and Germany signed an armistice to officially end World War 1. There is no one alive today to thank for their service in this war. The last known U.S. veteran of World War I was Frank Buckles who died Feb. 27, 2011, at the age of 110.

As we approach Election Day, my own sense of frustration mounts with the extreme negativity. Social media is full of people posting falsehoods and destructive sentiments about one side or the other to try to make their point.
I’ve worked on a lot of legislation over my 12 years as a state representative, but one of the areas I’m proudest of is my work to increase dyslexia recognition and training for our public school teachers.
What a crazy year this has been in one of the most polarized election years in our nation’s history.
Okeene has not been immune to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as it continues to plague the nation. Okeene school officials quarantined the junior high and high school for 14 days earlier this semester, utilizing distant learning during the quarantine as teachers and staff continued to work at the school. Churches and businesses have also independently taken different pre-cautions. Okeene First Baptist Church has held services outside periodically this year.
