For the past couple of weeks, Senate Committees have been meeting virtually to work through executive nominations—these are appointments by the governor to various posts in state agencies and on boards and commissions. These nominations must be approved first in committee and then by the full Senate.

Much effort has been put into “flattening the curve” of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. Success in achieving that goal is welcome. What Oklahoma should not do is “flatten the curve” on future economic growth as we emerge from the COVID-19 shutdown, yet it is likely special interest groups will advocate for policies that indirectly achieve that result through a misguided response to state budget challenges.
Every year, April is “Child Abuse Prevention Month,” and it is especially important that – as last month ends – we keep child abuse prevention at top of mind now and throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
