Okeene students win scholarships at state wheat show
Students from Okeene 4-H program won 4 of the 5 scholarships this week at the Oklahoma State Wheat Show in Stillwater. Several FFA Students place and participated as well. Each student planted their own wheat and collected samples. July 2019 they had a showcase of 10 Pounds of wheat they had handpicked. They took record of their progress and had to write a report on the outcome. “Participating students learn what it takes to produce milling quality wheat” said Kim Anderson, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service Grain Marketing Specialist. In all, $16,000 dollars in scholarship money was given away at the banquet in Stillwater. The contest is sponsored by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Oklahoma Wheat Research Foundation, Oklahoma Genetics Incorporated, Westbred, Oklahoma State University, and the Oklahoma Department of Career Technology and Education.
