100 year-old veteran receives Quilt of Valor at Veteran’s Day program
The Okeene Community celebrated Veterans Day at the Okeene Public Schools Auditorium with guest speaker Lt. Col. Deirdre Gurry, veteran Bob Ford and other local veterans.
The assembly took place Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., which Ford said is significant to Veterans Day as World War I ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Okeene students also participated in the assembly. High school students Kaylyn Aldrich, Maggie Halverson and Ryann Duke sang the national anthem. Brennan Hays, Payden Lornez and Sabrie Lornez participated in the Call to Colors and the concluding taps. Fourth grade students sang “This is My Country” and said what Veterans Day meant to them.
