After being postponed, Canton set to host 53rd Annual Walleye Rodeo this week

This week, Canton Lake will be hosting the 53rd Annual Walleye Rodeo, Oklahoma’s oldest and largest fishing tournament. After originally being scheduled in May, the decision was made to postpone the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a difficult decision to move the event, but a necessary one as the event brings so many people from across the state and surrounding states to compete or join in the festivities. The goal was to wait until the campgrounds were reopened by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, assuming state and local guidelines would allow such an event.

“It is very important for the town,” said Dixene Howerton of the Canton Lake Walleye Rodeo Association. “The businesses look forward to this weekend every year. The school does too. It’s a big event for us all.”
