School board reviews new gymnasium plans
Okeene Public School Board met Thursday, June 13, to view plans of the district’s future gymnasium. Discussions focused on how to make the best use of space, filling the district’s needs and remaining fiscally responsible.
The building is slated to be built north of the school, in the lot that currently sits empty west of the field house. The entrance will face east, toward the sports complex.
According to the plans viewed by the school board Thursday, the finished product will boast a first floor measuring 19,431 square feet and a second floor measuring 5,689 square feet, for an estimated total of 25,120 square feet. Within this floor plan, there will be 904 seats total. Also contained within the new building will be rooms for administration, classroom space, the basketball court, a walking track, a hospitality area, a kitchen, locker rooms and more. The projected size of the finished product was close to the Board’s goal of approximately 25,000 square feet.
Among the discussions were placements and types of various seating along with a rolling apparatus designed for collecting money from patrons. One style of seating mentioned was installing benches at the east and west ends of the second floor rather than conventional seating.
