Despite impressive scoring outputs, Hammon eliminates Okeene in Regional Consolation Final
Last week, the Okeene Whippets saw their season end, one victory short of advancing to the Area Round of the playoffs at the hands of the Hammon Warriors. After defeating the Carney Bulldogs and Wesleyan Christian Mustangs on the first two days of the round, Okeene fell to the eighthranked Warriors for the second time in eight days to officially eliminate them from the postseason.
On Thursday afternoon, the boys traveled to Cashion to take on Carney in the first of three-straight elimination games. While the Bulldogs got out to a fast start thanks to some dominant play from their big man inside, Okeene was able to weather the storm thanks to 11 first-quarter points from Cole Schmidt.
Carney seemed determined to let the Whippets attempt to beat them from the perimeter. Not only did Schmidt knock down a trio of shots from beyond the arc in the first quarter, but he added three more in the second, including one late to give Okeene a two-point lead heading into the locker room.
