Gaining experience the early goal as Okeene opens baseball season
Last week, the Okeene Whippets kicked off baseball season with a pair of games against Timberlake and Kremlin-Hillsdale. A year ago, Okeene was just bringing back the baseball program, but after losing the majority of his roster due to graduation, many of Coach Reese Brickman’s players were competing at the high school level for the first time.
Unfortunately, with that kind of inexperience comes struggles, and that was the case in the Whippets’ first two games. Okeene lost 22-0 to the Tigers on Tuesday, before dropping the Friday contest with the Broncs by a count of 15-0.
Despite the struggles, the Whippets had their moments that where things seemed to be clicking for them. After giving up 18 runs in the opening inning to Timberlake, Okeene bounced back to get a much smoother inning in the second as the Tigers only managed four runs in the frame.
