Grandson wins third place in world dummy roping event

The World Championship Dummy Roping for Kids competition in Las Vegas, Nev. was held last December, in which a local-Oklahoma roper made a name for himself. Nine-year-old Hazen Suit of nearby Ames placed third at the competition by roping the imitation steer head from a distance of 19 feet. He is the grandson of

Teresa (Buckner-1978 HH grad) and Steve Oliver (1971 HHS grad) of Hennessey, and Rex Suit of Ames and Rhonda Jantzen of Ames. The fourth grader’s achievements don’t limit themselves to this event. In fact, he spends more of his time roping from horseback on his quarter horse, Suvie- Q. The 19-foot accomplishment was a personal-best for Hazen, who won the qualifying competition in Sheridan, Wyo. from a distance of 16 feet last summer.
