IT’S ALMOST SLOW-PITCH TIME FOR THE 2018 LADY WHIPPETS
Okeene Public Schools were shut down last Thursday due to inclement weather, but with February wrapping up, spring is right around the corner. That means sunnier days, and for the Lady Whippets, time to dust off their gloves and cleats for slow-pitch softball.
Coach Steve Heckart will enter his 13th season as a slow-pitch softball coach at Okeene March 5. It’s his 29th overall. With most of his roster returning, he is looking forward to taking the next step with this group of girls.
“We’ve had some decent success over the last few years and we are hoping to build on that,” said Heckart. “It starts by improving game-by-game, and obviously we want to win a district championship, but I’d also like us to put ourselves in a top-16 position by the end of the year.”
