Junior high softball team closes the year with a win

The Okeene Junior High softball team wrapped up their season on April 16, as they hosted Aline-Cleo. The Lady Whippets went out in style with an 8-5 victory over the Lady Cougars.

After holding Aline-Cleo scoreless in the opening frame, the Lady Whippets came out with a bang. Each of Okeene’s first three hits were inside-thepark home runs, courtesy of Hope Swart, Katelyn Penner and Ryann Duke.

That got them out to a 3-0 lead, but Aline Cleo- clawed back to cut the lead to one in the second, before taking a 5-3 lead in the third.

Still, the Lady Whippets put together a 5-run rally in the third inning, thanks to three-straight singles by Penner, Duke, and Madison Munden. Hannah Nease later hit a single with the bases loaded, to score the fifth run of the inning, the maximum amount allowed in an inning.
