Lady Whippets take third-place in Coyle Tournament while boys win one of three
The Okeene High School basketball teams traveled to Coyle las week for a threeday invitational for their final tournament of the regular season. While the Lady Whippets managed to capture third-place at the event by taking two of their three contests, the boys dropped their first two games before closing out the week with a victory.
For the girls, the tournament started on Thursday with a game against the host-Bluejackets, in which a fast start was the catalyst to Okeene’s 53-47 win. The Lady Whippets hit six firsthalf threes, including a trio from Maddie Schmidt, to take an eight-point lead into the locker room.
Okeene added four more in the second half to extend the lead to double-digits, and while Coyle made a run in the final frame, the Lady Whippets held strong to advance to the semifinals. Hailey Swart led the way with 19 points for Okeene, while Schmidt added 14 of her own.
