Okeene JH Boys excited to be taking part in Summer Pride
Blayne Jinkens races to try and tag Brayson Roberts in one of the drills during the summer sessions. Jinkens, like many of the athletes got to miss out on track season this past spring thanks to the spread of coronavirus. Now many of them are getting back to competing at the Summer Pride workouts.
“I really wanted to run some meets,” said Roberts of missing track season. “I only got to run one, but now we get to get back in shape, and work on getting faster and better."
Destry Swaim weaves through the cones during the morning workout sessions. Swaim was one of nearly 20 junior high boys to regularly show up for the workouts during the first week after being stuck indoors since schools shutdown in mid-March. “It’s fun to be out here so we can get in shape and start learning to work together as a team,” said Swaim. “It gives us something to do instead of just laying around playing video games and drinking Dr. Pepper."
