Sports Okeene hosts 10th Annual Whippet Relays
Last week, Okeene hosted a pair of track meets in the Junior High and High School Whippet Relays. For the high school teams, the boys collected 17 points which was good enough for 13th, while the ladies were unable to earn points thanks to some absences due to the State Speech and Debate Competition. On the other hand, the junior high girls managed to finish eighth with 33 points, while the boys’ point total of 50 was good enough for fifth.
For the junior high girls, Katelyn Penner had a big day. She won the shot put with a toss of 29 feet, seven inches, while also placing second in the discus. Her throw of 80 feet was two and a half shy of the winner from Watonga, yet still nearly nine feet further than the next competitor.
Hope Swart also placed second in the pole vault to earn eight points. Her height of seven feet was just a foot shy of the top performance on the day.
