Swart toughs out broken nose to lead Okeene to Area Round of the playoffs
After losing to Hammon in the District Championship a week ago, the Okeene Lady Whippets entered the Regional Round of the playoffs with the odds stacked against them to advance. Despite having their backs to the wall, Coach Patrick Penner and the Lady Whippets were able to pull off three-straight victories to earn their spot in the Area Round of the playoffs this weekend.
On Thursday, the Lady Whippets kicked off the second round by traveling to Cashion for a matchup with the Mason Lady Eagles. Okeene wasted no time taking the early advantage, as their full-court pressure helped produce 11 first-quarter turnovers by Mason.
The Lady Whippets would turn those turnovers into an 18-6 lead after a quarter of play, and that margin swelled to 18 points by the midway point in the contest. By the third frame, Okeene was clicking on all cylinders as they outscored the Lady Eagles 18-2 in the quarter, and Coach Penner emptied his bench to close out the 58-26 blowout.
