Top Five Sports Moments for 2019-2020 Okeene School Year: Lady Whippets complete triple play

In the second installment of the five-part series diving back into the topo five sports moments over Okeene’s school year, we head back to late August when the Lady Whippets pulled off a triple play to defeat the Cherokee Lady Chiefs.

“It was a big play because it was a close game,” explained Steve Heckert. “Anytime something like this happens, it can change the outlook of the whole game. It can swing the momentum. In this case, it kept the momentum from slipping away from us.”

Softball season was two weeks old when the Lady Whippets hosted Cherokee. After a 13-1 loss to Kremlin-Hillsdale in which the bats went silent for Okeene, that was not the case against the Lady Chiefs.

Okeene reached base 26 times in the contest, but despite the success, they found themselves in a tough spot late in the game. After switching pitchers in the contest, four-straight walks saw the Lady Chiefs cut the lead to 13-8 and in the fifth inning.
