Trio of Whippets help lead
Last weekend, the Mid America Youth Basketball League hosted their Girls’ National Tournament in Edmond, where three of Okeene’s future freshmen competed for the final time in the off-season. Kaylyn Aldrich, Madison Schmidt and Katelyn Penner have competed on the Oklahoma Shock all summer, who saved one of their top performances of the season for the big stage, earning them third-place at the event.
The Shock, who have continually played up a level against full high school teams, found themselves on an even playing field last weekend, competing against only teams made up of future freshmen. Coach Akil Gay prefers to pit them against older competition during the earlier stages of the season in order to push them to play better as a team and as individuals.
