Whippets claw back to give Okeene first wins
The Okeene Whippets High School baseball team earned their first victories of the season last week, as the defeated Geary on Monday 14-13, and then again in extra innings in the Cherokee Strip Tournament in Helena.
The Whippets hosted Geary on Monday and after three and a half innings, they found themselves down 11-7. However, in the bottom of the fourth Okeene put together a seven-run rally to take the lead.
Alek Winter led the inning off with a single, and Noah Cagle was hit by a pitch on the very next at-bat. Kyle Benham walked two batters later, and Matthew Montez was also hit by a pitch.
With the bases loaded, and down by three Taylor Biggs stepped up and cleared the bases with a 3-run double to tie the game. Ryan Schultz walked and after Sam Osterhout reached on an error, Winter and Cagle hit back-to-back singles two put Okeene up by three.
Benham allowed the first two runners to get on base in the top of the fifth, but followed up by inducing a groundball to short and a pop out to the catcher. After putting the tying run on with a walk, and allowing the runner to advance to second on a passed ball, Behnam found himself in a tough spot.
