Last Friday was an eventful day for the Okeene High School basketball teams, as they not only took on rival-Fairview, but also found out their District Assignments for the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, their night on the hardwood was not as exciting as the news off it, as both the Whippets and Lady Whippets fell to the Yellowjackets.
The girls kicked off the night, and it didn’t take long to realize Fairview was on the mark from the outside. The Lady Jackets knocked down three of their 12 three-pointers in the opening frame, building an early 12-point advantage.
That lead more than doubled in the second quarter, thanks to four more shots from beyond the arc, and an Okeene offense that just could not get any rhythm. The Fairview defense denied the ball to Maleah Mayfield inside, and dared the Lady Whippets to try and beat them from the perimeter.
