Whippets win against Geary

The Okeene Whippets had a busy week, hitting the court three times in four nights, beginning with a Tuesday night game against Watonga.

The Whippets got off to a good start, taking an 11-7 lead in the first quarter. Okeene’s defense was especially impressive early on, as they forced the Eagles to stay on the perimeter, and settle for three-point attempts. Unfortunately, it was Watonga’s defense that took over from that point.

Their full-court press gave Okeene fits throughout the rest of the night, and the Whippet’s turnovers would go on to fuel an Eagles’ rally that would put them up by 10 at halftime, and 16 in the third quarter. With frustration mounting, Coach Penner had a few words for the officials in a game that was becoming a bit more physical than usual. Much to Coach Penners’ dismay, the referee hit him with a technical foul quickly, and before the Whippet’s leader could even finish a sentence, another on followed, sending Coach Penner to the locker room.
