Last week, the Okeene Junior High softball team wrapped up their fast-pitch season with a pair of games against Dover and Calumet on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday evening, the Lady Whippets fell to 11-3 to Dover, before just coming up short against Calumet the following night 3-2.
Last week was one of early excitement and midweek heartbreak for the Okeene Lady Whippets. When the week started, Okeene was getting ready to play in their final two regular-season games with the playoffs to start on Thursday morning.
The Lady Whippets hosted a trio of games last week, including Geary on Monday for their Senior Night honoring the two seniors on the roster, Hailey Swart and Aline-Cleo’s Leah Ramey. Okeene dropped their first two contests of the week against Geary and Thomas, before getting back in the win column against Merritt on Thursday.
The Okeene Whippets had a lot to celebrate last Friday after defeating Sharon-Mutual 20-14. Not only was it the Whippets’ Homecoming Game, but Okeene also pulled off their first victory of the season, as well as the first for Reece Brickman as head coach.
